Today’s the day. Today, I get you back during this trial, Mrs. Flanagan. You think that you represent the American people and their dream, but you are their nightmares. Pure communist and socialist trash. No more. I won’t let you get away with poisoning our country and our theatres with your soviet support. Do you think you can fire me as your mail clerk, you stupid commie, and still get away with it? I don’t think so. “Thank you, Mr. Chairman. My name is Hazel Huffman, and I am here to tell the dark truth about the Federal Theatre Project. Yes, Mr. Chairman, I was once a mail clerk for the Federal Theatre Project. Yes, Mr. Chairman, I treasured and valued my time at the Federal Theatre Project, where I was a loyal employee. Uh yes, Mr. Chairman, you could say that I had a front row seat to the treacherous propaganda the Federal Theatre Project was attempting to spread. I overheard what Mrs. Flanagan and her fellow comrades discussed in their meetings. Truly, they said some of the most ungodly things that would make you sick to your stomach. Yes, I do believe the members of the Federal Theatre Project are communists. Look at the plethora of evidence. Mrs. Flanagan and the Federal Theatre Project support the ideas and values of communism in everything that it stands for. And I am not the only one who thinks this way, as I am a proud representative for the Unemployed Theatrical Professionals. Oh yes, Mr. Chairmen, I can explain what that committee is. This committee was founded by workers who were used and abused by the Federal Theatre Project. Uh yes, Mr. Chairmen, I can give a specific example of the use of their propaganda. Mrs. Flanagan and the workers at the Federal Theatre Project handed out communist leaflets.” If she thinks that she can get rid of me and not suffer the consequences, she has another thing coming. No, Mrs. Flanagan doesn’t get to ruin my life and not suffer the consequences. “Today, I have 26 plays produced by the Federal Theatre Project that align with communist values such as ‘The Cradle Will Rock. ’  ‘The Cradle Will Rock’ is one of the many plays she wrote that showed her support for experimental Soviet theatre. The same kind of theatre that is linked to communist values.  Another example is in ‘How Long, Brethern’ which uses southern gospels. Do we need to support this kind of theatre that supports this kind of integration, such as miscegenation? So I ask you, do we want theatre that represents the american people? Or do we want these so-called performers corrupting the thing we call theatre? Mr. Chairmen, if I may, I would like to address Mrs. Flanagan directly if I may. Thank you. Mrs. Flanagan, I am afraid that this is not the place for you to spew your propaganda.”
